Highly effective presentation skills is one of the key attributes looked for when recruiting new staff.
Most people develop their presentation skills over a substantial amount of time by making business presentations and and of course learning from their own experiences.
However you can build up effective presentation skills more quickly if you get good presentation skills training from an expert coach.
You can also progress by reading presentation skills tips and advice on the web and in books. And here are some initial tips to help you start to build up your presentation technique.
When first starting to design a presentation don’t start using your favourite visual aids s/w. This is one on the last steps you should take.
Analyse who the presentation is aimed at - and speech. Ensure that you remember that the outcome will mostly be down to how the audience react to the presentation the audience react topositively.
So think hard about who your audience are going to be and what experience they have of your presentation topic. Then when you come to design the speech you can use your skill to ensure that what you write is persuasive to your audience.
Next you need to ensure that you understand precisely what you personally want to achieve from the session. Do you want to sell them a product? Is it an informational presentation Do you want to get the audience’s approval for your project? Whatever it is just, simply ensure that you fully understand them before you start working on the text of your presentation.
Then with the above points in mind try and create a business presentation that makes sense to the members of your audience and includes the objectives you want to achieve too. Ideally use the power of 3 in the presentation structure. eg With a Beginning; Middle; End. Split the middle part up into three smaller parts. One section for each of the main points you want to make in your presentation.

When you have the body of your business presentation finished it is time to think about visual aids. Don’t fall into the trap of using PowerPoint as a prompt. The visual aids are there for the audience. Ensure you make the slides you produce as visually stimulating as possible. The slides are there to enhance the presentation. Also, reduce the number of visuals to an absolute minimum.
And finally, when you come to deliver the presentation, don’t try not to read off the powerpoints, always face the audience when you are speaking to them. And remember to smile!
